  • Bounced Visitor - A visitor who views only a single page on your website and has no further actions. This is generally considered a bad experiance.

  • Campaign - The name of a paid campaign, for example "My Product %10 off Sale" for a Pay-Per-Click campaign or "January Sale" for an email campaign.

  • Google Analytics Tracking Code (GATC) - A snippet of code that is added to every page on your website to enable Google Analytics to collect and report on visit data. Also more generally referred to as the "Page Tag".

  • Goal Conversion - The desired action on your web site that is defined as being more valuable than a standard pageview. For example completing a sale, signing up for email updates, or viewing a paticular page within your website.

  • Funnel - A well-defined process (most usually pages) leading to a Goal Conversion, for example a shopping cart process.

  • Landing Page - The first page visitors arrive on when they visit your website. Also known as the "Entrance Page". This page may or may not be the "Home" page of your website.

  • Medium - The means by which a visitor to your site received the link to your site. These may include Organic Searches, Pay-Per-Click, email links, newsletters, print media, TV, Radio, referral sites and many other.

  • Referrer - The URL of a HTML page that refers visitors to your site, external pages visitors click on to bring them to your site.

  • Return On Investment (ROI) - Calculated as (revenue - cost)/cost and displayed as a percentage.

  • Session - Also referred to as a "visit" or "visitor session" is the period of interaction a visitor has with your website. A session ends when a visitor either closes their browser or 30 minutes has elapsed without activity.

  • Site Search - A website's internal site search mostly used on sites with large volumes of content in order to improve the user experiance and used to help users find information faster.

  • Source - In the context of campaign tracking, the source is the origin of a referral, for example, google.com, yahoo.com, name of a newsletter, email campaign, or referring web site

  • URL (Uniform Resource Locator) - A means of identifying an exact location on the internet. A URL typically has four parts: Protocol type (HTTP), host domain (www.mywebsite.com), director path (/products/), and filename (myproducts.php).
